New to campus and wondering what you can do to be more sustainable at UQ? Here's some simple ideas. Easy peasy.
1. BYO water bottle
Bring your own refillable water bottle to uni and refill at our FREE water refill stations. Fresh and free, all-day every-day!
Why is this a good idea? Read about the real cost of bottled water
2. Hug your mug
Using your own refillable cup avoids millions of disposable cups going to landfill each year.
Don't have a cup? Join Green Caffeen and get a free Green Caffeen reusable coffee cup when you buy a coffee.
3. Eat sustainable food
Dine mindfully on sustainable foods that are good for you and the planet!
Think local, minimally processed and ethical. Try a meat-free day each week.
4. Embrace minimalism and recycle
Ditch disposables with UQ Unwrapped and go plastic-free .
Avoid collecting stuff and focus on having items you need or love. Try a season of slow fashion.
Love to recycle but not sure what goes where? Check out our campus recycling guide or follow the friendly signs on the bins. You might also like to check out our new re-use and recycling station, where UQ students and staff can drop off all those 'difficult' items like batteries, old laptops and phones, plastic shopping bags, bubble wraps, glasses, toothbrushes and more.
5. Walk, cycle or public transport to uni
Walk or cycle to uni to be fit, active and eco-friendly. Check out our free bike boxes with lockers and shower facilities, cycling fixit stations and safe cycling tips.
Not feasible to walk or cycle? Catch public transport to campus, the ultimate ride-share!
6. Care for our wildlife
Our furry and feathered friends can be cute but please don't feed them. It's ok to shoo wildlife away but it's not a good idea to leave food unattended!
Call for assistance from a carer if you find injured wildlife on campus.
