For the last few months, UQ has been trialling a new waste-reduction initiative that involves replacing under-desk office bins with central waste and recycling stations. This simple act not only helps increase recycling and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, but encourages staff to take regular breaks from their desks to dispose of their rubbish.
So far, under-desk bins have been removed from JD Storey, Prentice, GCI, QBI and the Warehouse, and more removals are underway in Steele, Richards and the Duhig Tower.
We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who's provided feedback on this initiative so far — your input is helping us improve how we manage it. We're planning to have it rolled out across UQ within 12 months, so watch this space for waste-reduction updates!
