UQ Preloved is an initiative of Oxfam UQ that invites the local community to participate in the circular economy, bring awareness to the impacts of the fashion industry on people and the planet, give a second life to preloved items to promote sustainable consumption of fashion.

Join us on Monday 16th at the Grassy Knoll to grab a bargain, participate in the circular economy, and learn about the social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry!

"The fashion industry has many social and environmental impacts. The current trend within the fashion industry is one where people expect 52 seasons in a year and to be able to buy a shirt for the same price as a cup of coffee. Such demand and supply results in the mass production of low-quality items that get worn once or twice before being thrown out and replaced by something else. In order to make clothes at such a fast rate and for so cheap, companies manufacture in unsafe facilities, use forced, slave and child labour and pay workers less than minimum and living wages.

On top of this, harsh and unsafe chemicals are used, and the huge amounts of unwanted clothes end up in landfill, often back in the countries they were produced in. By starting the UQ Preloved Initiative, Oxfam UQ hopes to raise awareness about the perils of the fashion industry and give a second life to preloved clothes/items to help end the cycle of exploitation and waste which has become so normal and underreported in society." - UQ Preloved Facebook Page.
