Climate change and water are inextricably linked – from unpredictable rainfall patterns to shrinking ice sheets, rising sea levels, floods and drought. Achieving water security in the face of the climate crisis is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. This seminar will address the challenges of water security in the changing climate, highlighting existing issues on water availability, water hazards, and water management.  

Speakers include

  • Dr Steven Kenway, Professor, Water-Energy-Carbon Group Leader, University of Queensland, 

Dr Steven Kenway is the Research Group Leader, Water-Energy-Carbon at The University of Queensland. He has over 25 year’s research, industry and consulting experience at CSIRO, Brisbane Water, Sydney Water, and government. His work focuses on the water-energy nexus and urban water management.

  • Duncan Elletson, Futures Strategist- Water Security,   Urban Utilities. 

Duncan Elletson is the Water Security Strategist within the City and Regional Futures team at Urban Utilities. He is responsible for leading and managing Urban Utilities long term Water Security and Drought Management activities. Commencing his water industry career with the WA Water Corporation in 2005, Duncan has held a diverse range of positions in the ensuing time with many focused on designing and implementing strategies and programs that position demand management as a key element of a sustainable, holistic water cycle.

  • Glen Taylor, Futures Strategist- Climate Change, Urban Utilitites.

Glen Taylor is the Climate Change Specialist with the Strategy Team at Urban Utilities. He is responsible for the organisation’s strategic response to climate change mitigation and adaptation, including a commitment to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2032. His role focuses on creating, coordinating, and delivering strategic insight and subject matter expertise on key topics relating to energy, climate, carbon management and greenhouse gas emissions. Glen is an alumnus of the University of Queensland’s Chemical Engineering school, with a Master of Business Administration and more than 25 years’ experience across the water, resources, and FMCG sectors.
