About the speakers

Associate Professor Jacquelyn Humphrey

Jacquelyn is an Associate Professor in Finance at UQ Business School, University of Queensland. Jacquelyn's main research interest is in how environmental, social and governance factors impact on investment decision-making for investors and corporations. She also has an active interdisciplinary research agenda in sustainability more broadly. She also has a research interest in funds management.

Dr Saphira Rekker

Saphira is a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Sustainable Finance at The University of Queensland and has a PhD in Finance. Saphira's research focuses on tools to measure and verify the efficacy of decarbonisation commitments by corporations. As part of the Princeton-led Rapid Switch initiative, she leads UQ's Corporate Climate MAP program, which evaluates the alignment of companies and investment portfolios with the Paris Agreement. Saphira is a member of the Technical Working Group of the Science Based Targets initiative for the oil and gas sector, and a contributor to EU climate benchmarking regulation. She has ongoing collaborations with numerous industry partners including Fidelity, Ernst & Young and Norges Bank.

Professor Hurriyet Babacan

Professor Hurriyet is Professor of Economic and Policy Development at the Australian Institute of Business and Economics at the University of Qld and also the Research Director at the Rural Economies Centre of Excellence. Hurriyet has a distinguished career over the last 25 years in senior roles in higher education, public private partnerships and the public sector. She has held roles such as the Victorian Manager of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet; Executive Director, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Pro Vice-Chancellor; CEO of number of organisations including local government; and director of research institutes.

Sustainability Week is an opportunity for the UQ community to celebrate and promote sustainability across UQ's campuses and sites. From August 15-19, a range of activities and events are hosted across all areas of the University, including markets, workshops, crafts and DIY, film screenings, specialist presentations, tree plantings, bird watching and garden tours, solar tours, forums and panel discussions, competitions and challenges to inspire sustainable behaviours.
