A Green Office survey or Green Lab assessment is conducted when an office joins the program to assist in identifying strengths and reveal areas where the office or lab may need improvement in terms of waste management, energy efficiency, or other forms of everyday activities.

The Green Programs Assistant is able to guide Green Labs and Green Office representatives through conducting a survey of their workplace when they sign up as a representative.

Follow up surveys can be conducted, usually on an annual basis, to assess improvements made throughout their time as a representative.

These regular annual assessments can be useful over a longer time scale to see how the university is progressing in terms of sustainability as a whole.

Even an adjustment as simple as removing plastic packaging before products enter labs, so that the plastic can be disposed of in soft plastic recycling bins rather than in the required clinical waste bins, can reduce large amounts of waste over a longer period of time.
