Semester 1 saw new Green Office reps be a part of the first ever, online Green Office training. Conducted via Zoom, the reps learned how to make their workplaces more sustainable from current rep Liz Eden (who’s been in the program since 2010!)  and Nicole from Eco Efficiency. The Zoom call allowed for collaborative discussion and networking, some reps even finding out they were on the same campus outside of St Lucia!

Once in-person classes recommenced for Semester 2, the Sustainability Office decided to offer the semesterly training via mixed delivery. On the day, in-person reps learned side-by-side (virtually) with Zoom reps. A lapel microphone meant the presenter could pick up participants’ audio by walking around the room. In return, the Zoom reps could ask and answer questions via the Zoom chat in real time. Although this first mixed-delivery training was not without its technical hiccups (a UQ-wide internet outage shut down the Zoom call!), it was a success and a mode that will be offered again.

Even without the necessity of social distancing, online training is more accessible for those with strict schedules, who work from home or another campus. This was made clear when the Green Labs’ training for Semester 2 was completely online, and those within labs and across campuses were still able to attend and learn how to make their workplaces eco-friendlier.
