The University of Queensland's Student Union (UQU) is launching the Union Op Shop! Scheduled to open its doors in August, this thrift store will be located in the Union Complex, between the UQU Bookshop and the Food Co-op.
We are currently seeking donations of clean, good quality clothing, accessories, and footwear. Donations can be dropped off at the donation bin located in the Union Complex (next to Secondhand Text & Stationery). Celebrate Sustainability Week by giving your unwanted clothes a new home.
The Op Shop comes as a breath of fresh air, aiming to address two significant concerns for students - affordability and textile waste. As university life can be financially challenging for many, the Op Shop offers a more mindful and conscious approach to clothing shopping. This affordability factor opens up doors for students to access trendy and unique fashion pieces without straining their budgets.
Savings aside, another notable aspect of the Op Shop is its commitment to sustainability and reducing textile waste. All items on sale are sourced from donations made by students and staff, which adds a touch of community spirit to the entire initiative. By accepting pre-loved clothes and giving them a second life, the Union Op Shop actively contributes to the circular economy while encouraging environmentally responsible fashion choices among students.

About UQ Sustainability Week 2023
Sustainability Week is an opportunity for the UQ community to celebrate and promote sustainability across UQ's campuses and sites. From August 21-25, a range of activities and events are hosted across all areas of the University, including markets, workshops, crafts and DIY, film screenings, specialist presentations, tree plantings, bird watching and garden tours, solar tours, forums and panel discussions, competitions and challenges to inspire sustainable behaviours.
